Special Christmas Event 2023 in the Kempen:
4x4 Smuggling route "De Bockenreyders".
In the 18th century, "Bockenreyders" or "Goat Riders" were, according to popular belief, persons or spirits who rode through the air on goats. In the former county of Loon, the present-day southern Netherlands and northern Belgium border area, these violent gangs of billy goat riders organized their plundering expeditions to the German border.
During the First World War, the German occupiers built a 332-kilometre-long electric wire barrier (Death Wire) in this border area, which tried to stop smuggling and war volunteers. A few silent witnesses of this still remain.
ADVENTURE CLUB LR selected the most beautiful and typical Kempen smuggling roads for you, some of which meander endlessly across the Belgian / Dutch border, and came up with a sublime, damage-free 4x4 route that takes you largely through the heart of the traditional Kempen, with its own typical Kempen villages and farms ...
